Job Description

Fathomers is seeking a grant writer with a minimum of 5 years of recent experience drafting successful grant proposals, and a demonstrated proficiency with federal, state and foundation grant prospect research.

The grant writer will write coherent, organized and compelling proposals, adhere to internal and external deadlines, as well as apply knowledge of fundraising methods and plans to reach organizational objectives and goals. 

We’re looking for a professional who is a meticulous and persuasive writer, has proficient knowledge of fundraising methods, and is interested in Fathomers’ and our artists’ endeavors. Preferred applicants are deadline-driven team players with outstanding multitasking abilities and communication skills.

This is a remote position.

Job Purpose

To lead the process of grant proposal writing, contribute to grant prospect research, and recommend strategic fundraising plans.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct prospect research to Identify new funding opportunities
  • Write high-quality grant proposal narratives, applications, and supporting documents
  • Collaborate with colleagues and artists in researching, collecting data, and writing of each grant
  • Work with colleagues to compile financials, data and budget for grant applications
  • Manage the proposal submission process to ensure timely submission of all required materials
  • Coordinate necessary follow-ups with submitted proposals
  • Maintaining proficient knowledge of organization history, artist biographies, existing and past project and programing
  • Contribute to the development of annual grants strategy
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Adherence to organization’s mission

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in writing, communication, or related field
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in research and grant writing, preferably in arts- related fields. If grant-writing experience is not in the arts fields, then at least 5 years of other professional experience in the arts is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to write successful grant proposals of $25,000+.  Multiple writing samples will be requested from top candidates.
  • Facility in writing original proposals developed out of long term, multidisciplinary artist-led projects is a must.

Job Skills

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and deadline-driven
  • Clear, precise and compelling writing skills
  • Proficient with Google Suites; experience in project management software a plus
  • Excellent knowledge of fundraising sources
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Motivated self starter with the ability to work independently with purpose and accuracy; ability to organize, prioritize, and meet critical deadlines; proactively identify and solve problems
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, ethical decision-making, and reliable discretion

Position Type and Compensation

This is an independent contractor position of 25-40 hours per month, with occasional evening and weekend hours.  The compensation will be $50 – 75 per hour, based on experience.  This is a remote position.
