Job Description

The Communications Manager is a key player in shaping and executing Chorus America’s marketing and content strategy, driving audience and membership engagement, program revenue, and organizational visibility to further Chorus America’s mission and vision.

 

Chorus America is the advocacy, research, and leadership development organization that advances the choral field. Our mission is to strengthen singing communities with the advocacy, connections, and resources they need to be a vital part of society. We do this by supporting and serving choral conductors, administrators, board members, and singers with a wide array of programs, publications, research, and professional services. These services strengthen their ability to build strong organizations that foster quality choral performances and leverage the unique characteristics of choral/group singing to build community. Chorus America currently serves more than 6,000 choruses, individuals, businesses, and organizations.

The Communications Manager is a key player in shaping and executing Chorus America’s marketing and content strategy, driving audience and membership engagement, program revenue, and organizational visibility to further Chorus America’s mission and vision.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES  

CONTENT CREATION & OVERSIGHT

  • Maintain Chorus America website with regular updates to ensure current information, including posting articles and providing customer service for Member News section.
  • Serve as editor of Chorus America’s blog, writing and compiling entries that highlight current news from Chorus America and member individuals and organizations; maintain regular blog posting schedule.
  • Manage organization’s social media presence and strategy: creating and posting regular content, collaborating with staff to highlight special initiatives, and cultivating opportunities for enhanced visibility and engagement.
  • Create and send regularly recurring email communications to increase engagement, including member enewsletter.
  • Leverage Chorus America’s communications channels to promote and increase visibility for articles, videos, and other content; execute mailing of Voice magazine’s print edition.
  • Collaborate with membership team to highlight membership benefits through Chorus America’s communications channels.
  • Research, compile, and write regularly recurring news sections in Chorus America’s Voice magazine, currently published three times a year.

PROGRAM MARKETING

  • With VP of Communications and Membership, develop program marketing strategy and marketing plans for all programs.
  • Execute marketing plans for Chorus America’s programs to drive revenue and engagement, with a focus on email and other digital marketing strategies and channels.
  • Manage website presence for all Chorus America programs; coordinate with information and digital asset manager on program website infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with programs, development, and other internal teams to develop program marketing messaging and coordinate marketing timelines.

DATA, STRATEGY, AND ANALYSIS

  • Manage organizational email and digital content calendar, collaborating across departments to balance messaging priorities.
  • Manage Chorus America’s bulk email program, maintaining segmented email list and using bulk email data to inform continued bulk email developments.
  • Track and analyze results of program and content marketing strategies to inform and refine future marketing efforts.
  • Collect and share regular statistics on website usage and performance, collaborating with information and digital assets manager to track and analyze data.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading ability;
  • Committed team player with outstanding cross-departmental collaboration skills;
  • Strong follow-up and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects;
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and a creative and positive approach to problem solving;
  • Willingness to travel and be available for occasional weekend work, including but not limited to: onboarding, staff retreats, professional development opportunities, and one-week each year in May/June as staff for annual Chorus America Conference.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience required;
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of communications experience preferably in the arts, culture, and/or social justice sector;
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft software (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required;
  • Proficiency with email marketing and social media required;
  • Experience with digital media, including video creation and editing preferred;
  • Experience with Content Management System (CMS) preferred;
  • Knowledge and appreciation of music or the arts preferred.

 

WORK LOCATION

In addition to our fully remote team members, Chorus America currently supports a hybrid working environment. The Washington, DC area team is currently in the office 2 days per week downtown Washington, DC with 3 days per week working at home/remotely (this is subject to change). Our small staff has built a dynamic and strong team culture rooted in collaboration and relationship-building. We continue to actively adapt our culture and approach to teamwork to bridge in-person and remote staff communication. A fully distributed position will be considered with travel expected for onboarding, team building, the annual conference, and in support of Communications meetings and events.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Chorus America offers a salary range of $50K-$60K and a generous benefits package, including 100 percent employer paid health/dental/vision insurance; short- and long-term disability, life insurance, vacation; pre-tax transportation program; half-day Fridays six-weeks during the summer; and rejuvenation leave program. Our compensation ranges are based on salary ranges for similar sized nonprofit organizations in the professional services sector.
