Job Summary:

The Technical Maintenance Lead is essential in ensuring that show tech systems for the Las Vegas exhibition are operational. This individual will lead the Tech Maintenance team in diligently maintaining electrical systems of varying sizes and complexities, maximizing productivity and uptime, offering engineering support and responding to service requests with regard to mechanical and electrical problems, and delegating tasks to appropriate team members. Comprehensive knowledge of technical systems including wiring, power supplies, microcontrollers, lighting, audio, video, network, and surveillance systems, and how they work together to create the intended show experience. This individual will be charged with keeping these systems operational and will coordinate with the maintenance staff to fix and maintain these systems at the highest standard of quality. This role is responsible for training staff (MODs, Docent Leads, etc.) to engage with the tech in the show and fix minor daily problems via the custom show control system. The lead will also be working with the IT subcontractor to maintain all tech related facilities systems: internet, phones, PoS system, Surveillance (NVR), Backup (SAN), front desk computers, show controller, and any other out of exhibition tech systems.


Job Responsibilities:

Primary responsibility will be to preserve and make certain that all technical equipment and systems are in good working order by following operational instructions, troubleshooting any malfunctions, determining appropriate system improvements and solutions, regularly performing preventive maintenance and scheduling routine inspections or repairs. The Tech Maintenance Lead will ensure compliance to all applicable codes and regulations and advise senior management on any requirements. Additionally, responsibility will be to maintain material and equipment supplies by regularly monitoring inventory levels, anticipating needs, and placing/ expediting electrical supply/ materials orders. This role will manage the assessment, ordering, and safe repair for larger broken tech systems and will coordinate with the Meow Wolf Creative Studios tech team as needed in the process.

  • Work with Creative Operator Leads to make sure any immediately solvable problems are dealt with.
  • Review the Creative Operator Bug Report and Tech Failure Log for changes in daily operation.
  • Replace electronic parts, and low voltage lighting as needed.
  • Install new cabling in and out of the exhibition as it relates to art installations.
  • Keep track of Tech Maintenance inventory, and order parts as needed.
  • Clean, and maintain tech closet/ nook electronics.
  • Work with other Ops teams to keep the exhibition fresh, and functional.
  • Add new content to exhibit devices.
  • Install, connect, and test any new electronic devices, as appropriate.
  • Work with the physical maintenance team to solve any AC power problems, or upgrades.
  • Document all upgrades and changes.
  • Be able to conduct exhibition work during operating hours as a performance character to perpetuate our guests’ experience.
  • Other duties as assigned, including cross-training into other departments.

Required Qualifications:

This position requires an advanced computing skill-set, familiarity with low voltage electronics and electrical safety and relevant regulatory code. Strong understanding of general electronics theory.

  • Experience with other electronics is a huge plus.

  • Prior work experience in a creative organization.
  • Prior work experience in a retail, museum, park, recreation facility, or other public space.

Work Environment and Physical Demands


Work Environment: 

This job primarily operates in an indoor setting with exposure to noisy environments, dim lighting, strong visual effects including strobing lights, special effects, fog machines and small and/ or enclosed spaces.


Physical Demands: 

  • Moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces
  • Remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Positioning or moving objects up to 75 pounds
  • Use of maintenance tools and cleaning equipment, includes use of cleaning agents and chemicals.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position and requires a flexible schedule to accommodate times the exhibit is closed to the public.  Occasional evening, overnight and weekend work are required as job duties demand.


Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does require supervisory responsibility.
