Saint Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective invites nominations and applications for the position of Executive Director.

We seek a professional for the position of Executive Director based in St. Louis, MO. The ideal candidate has a solid track record in areas such as the arts, leadership, business operations, fundraising, community partnerships, and youth development. They are a strong communicator, collaborator and have a strategic mindset. The Executive Director is required to lead all aspects of the nonprofit and to secure funds through diverse sources.

Saint Louis Story Stitchers is a nationally recognized Artists Collective known for high quality art and innovative youth violence prevention programs.

The mission of Saint Louis Story Stitchers is to document St. Louis through art and word, and to promote understanding, civic pride, intergenerational relationships, and literacy. Saint Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective gathers youth ages 16-25 years old, 98% of whom are Black or youth of color, underserved young people, to talk about current issues and turn local stories into art aimed at creating social change. Our goal is to promote a better educated, more peaceful and caring region through storytelling.

About the Position:

As the artistic and business operations leader, the Executive Director will work closely with the Board and staff to oversee artistic and educational programs, develop and manage budgets, grow fundraising and development efforts, oversee marketing and communications, and lead the strategic planning to support the organizations continued growth and success.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide thoughtful and strategic leadership to strengthen programming, resources, culture and the organization’s commitment to the ideals of equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Oversee and manage the operating budget and set the professional and organizational performance standards required to lead and grow a successful nonprofit.
  • Support and engage the staff to deliver their responsibilities, work as a high-performing team, and to develop their capabilities to grow professionally.
  • Build and coordinate the development and administration duties of the nonprofit including fundraising, donor cultivation, and the day-to-day operations of the organization.
  • Serve as the main staff liaison to the Board in the areas of programming, fundraising, governance, finance, and policy; cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the Board.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to grow the organization’s overall base of philanthropic support, thoughtfully increasing the level of service and philanthropy generated through deliberate, high-touch engagement.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business, administration, the arts or related field, or a minimum of 3 years’ professional work experience in nonprofit administration (arts organization preferred).
  • Proven leadership, organizational skills, attention to detail, and business management capabilities, that should include forecasting, budgeting, marketing, and experience growing a team.
  • Proven track record working directly within the communities most heavily impacted by Story Stitchers.
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial equity.
  • Experience partnering with other public and private groups to address systemic barriers.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion; experience working with and engaging diverse communities.
  • Strong fundraising or similar experience; individual donor cultivation and grant management experience is preferred.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience, salary range $68,000-$78,000 with opportunities for growth.
