Full-Time Editorial Coordinator
The Contemporary Jewish Museum (The CJM) seeks an Editorial Coordinator to be an integral member of the Marketing and Communications team, and whose primary responsibility is tracking multi-stakeholder, cross-departmental print and digital communications designed to educate, challenge, and inspire The CJM’s diverse audiences.
Reporting to the Senior Marketing Manager, the Editorial Coordinator tracks publishing and production schedules; sources visual assets and deliverables; communicates with staff and external vendors and contractors to keep projects on track and meet deadlines; and coordinates with various departments, including Design, Development, Education, Public Programs, and Curatorial and Exhibitions. The Editorial Coordinator also writes and edits short- and long-form copy across The CJM’s communications platforms.
As part of The CJM’s Marketing team—which works with departments across The Museum to produce digital and print communications, including email newsletters, quarterly program guides, website and social media content, ad campaigns, press releases, and in-Museum collateral—this position will be deployed as needed on projects and content development across The Museum.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Coordinate production timelines; track materials and route to internal stakeholders for review for projects such as the quarterly program guide, exhibition text, digital communications, and marketing materials
- Collaborate closely with the Design team to maintain schedules and meet deadlines and project requirements
- Work with various departments to procure visual assets, rights and permissions, approvals, corrections, and revisions
- In consultation with the Senior Marketing Manager, schedule and track projects with external vendors and contractors
- Schedule project meetings, prepare agendas, take and distribute meeting notes
- Proactively identify potential roadblocks and strategize ways to improve workflow
- Maintain department archive of completed projects and samples from other organizations
- Write and copyedit content, including emails, website and social media copy, invitations, brochures, and short program guide and website articles, ensuring appropriate tone and voice and brand identity
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, journalism, or related subject, with course work in art history and/or Jewish studies desirable
- 1–3 years of project coordination and production experience in digital and/or traditional publishing required; experience coordinating projects with multiple stakeholders and aggressive timelines
- Commitment to the mission and core values of The CJM
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and an ability to liaise effectively and diplomatically with Museum staff and contractors
- Superb proofreading skills and familiarity with The AP Stylebook and The Chicago Manual of Style
- Proficiency with project management tools. Experience with Asana strongly desired.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate many projects simultaneously, set priorities, anticipate demands, and meet deadlines
- Self-motivated and able to prioritize and manage time appropriately
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Familiarity with design, production, and printing vocabulary and processes
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Articulate, thoughtful, and detail-oriented
- Familiarity with HTML, web production, and CMS administration a plus
Writing and Editing Samples
Applicants will be required to take a short editing test. In addition, please include one writing sample of 500–1,000 words (excerpts are acceptable). Samples should be current, non-fiction, and relevant to the position; for example, a published article or blog post, or sample marketing materials.
