• Reports to: Artistic Director
• Job type: Full time, annual
• Salary Range: $68,000-$73,000

The Position:

The Director of Arts Engagement will create and lead arts engagement initiatives and programs that engage, enrich, and expand access to transformational theatre experiences throughout our Kansas City community. Key programs will include leading our KCRep for All free community tour, artistic engagement with our American Crossroads Residency and Commission, as well as all engagement surrounding each season of shows. The Director of Arts Engagement will build upon the foundations of these programs and collaborate significantly with the Artistic Leadership Team to expand the communities served and create meaningful engagement through these programs and initiatives with communities throughout the KC region.

Additionally, the Director of Arts Engagement will promote access to these resources of the theatre by listening to the needs and aspirations of community members and partners and developing thoughtful opportunities to create theatre experiences and engagement born of those conversations and community building.

The Director of Arts Engagement will be a key member and thought partner within the Artistic Leadership Team, reporting to the Associate Artistic Director.

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
• Create, produce, and oversee all artistic engagement programs including KCRep’s community tour KCRep for All.
• Manage KCRep for All, an annual tour that provides live theatre to our community! We offer free performances all around Kansas City, bringing the same great shows from our main stages to local community centers, public libraries, schools, recovery centers, and senior centers. We reimagine and adapt these performances to make them accessible and enjoyable for everyone, right in your neighborhood. With KCRep for All, we actively break down barriers to ensure everyone can experience the joy of theatre, no matter where you live. Inspired by The Old Globe’s Globe for All program in San Diego, we connect with our community and share the magic of theatre with all. By bringing our shows to all local spaces, we work to make theatre accessible for all.
• Lead Artistic Engagement activities and community building around American Crossroads Commission and Residency. American Crossroads supports the development of new works inspired by the people, events and communities of the KC Region, whose stories have not been told. American Crossroads Inaugural recipience of the residency is Indigenous Playwright Mary Kathryn Nagle.
• Create and facilitate arts engagement opportunities for audiences before and after performances.
• Create and maintain the Arts Engagement budget and collaborate with the Associate Artistic Director as it pertains to KCRep for All, and all arts engagement programming.
• Engage in weekly Artistic Team meetings
• Develop and maintain relationships with community leaders and organizations
• Work with the Development Department to identify and inspire support for community engagement programs, including underwriting, sponsorship, and promotional opportunities
• Work in collaboration with the Marketing Department to engage current and new audiences not being served by KCRep
• Meaningfully contribute and partner with the Artistic Team to advance KCRep’s commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Anti-racism (IDEA)
• Abide by all Kansas City Repertory policies and procedures
• Establish relationships and be a representative of KCRep in the national arts, and greater Kansas City community.

• A demonstrated ability to build authentic and collaborative relationships with a wide variety of community leaders and community partner organizations
• A demonstrated expertise in budgeting, producing, and managing large artistic projects
• Elevated level of cultural competency engaging with artists and communities of the Global Majority
• Managing, motivating, and inspiring staff and stakeholders to accomplish common goals objectives
• Experience in collaborative leadership
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills – characterized by the ability to listen, speak, and write well
• Integrity, honesty, compassion, and generosity
• Bi or multilingual with preference for fluency in Spanish
