Director of Arts Bonita School of the Arts

Position Summary:

  • The Director of Arts Bonita School of the Arts is a dynamic and visionary leader overseeing all aspects of the school’s visual and performing arts programs. This role involves working closely with department heads to identify and develop class offerings, writing class descriptions, creating class schedules, ensuring proper setup and breakdown of classes, and organizing master workshops across all disciplines. The Director will play a pivotal role in maintaining the school’s high standards, fostering a vibrant arts community, and expanding the school’s reach and impact.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development:

  • Collaborate with department heads to identify new class offerings in various disciplines, including stone carving, metalwork, clay, drawing, painting, jewelry making, photography, dance, theater, and film.
  • Work with instructors to create detailed and engaging class descriptions to attract and inform prospective students.
  • Create and manage class schedules, ensuring a balanced and comprehensive curriculum.

 

Operational Management:

  • Oversee the setup and breakdown of classrooms, studios, and performance spaces to ensure a conducive learning environment.
  • Coordinate with facilities staff to maintain and improve physical spaces and resources.

Workshop Organization:

  • Plan and organize master workshops in all disciplines, inviting renowned artists and experts to provide advanced learning opportunities.
  • Work with marketing and communications teams to promote workshops and attract participants.

Community Engagement:

  • Ability to work with department heads of the Visual Arts Advisory Council to expand programming and student engagement.
  • Foster relationships with local artists, educators, and community organizations to enhance the school’s programs and visibility.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase enrollment and participation in all classes and workshops.
  • Develop relationships with gated communities, schools, and organizations to offer regional educational programs.
  • Work with the Executive Director to develop educational outreach programs for local schools, integrating educational curriculum into year-long arts programs.
  • Expand community engagement.
  • Work with local schools to identify and nurture emerging artists

 

Budgeting and Financial Management:

  • Prepare and manage budgets for classes, workshops, and other programs, ensuring financial sustainability and effective use of resources.
  • Monitor expenses and revenues, providing regular financial reports to the Executive Director, the Finance Director, and the Board of Directors.
  • Seek and secure funding opportunities, including grants and sponsorships, to support program development and expansion.
  • Devise strategies to increase the earned revenue from education and community engagement programming to ensure a balanced portfolio of sources for sustainability.

Strategic Planning:

  • Develop strategic and operational plans to guide the growth and development of the school’s programs.
  • Ensure alignment of the school’s goals with the overall mission and vision of Arts Bonita.

 

Administrative Duties:

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make adjustments as needed to meet the needs of students and the community.
  • Report to the Executive Director on program developments, challenges, and successes.

 

Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Arts Administration, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Proven experience in arts education, program management, and community engagement
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in budgeting and financial management
  • Passion for the arts and commitment to fostering a creative and inclusive learning environment
  • Positive, can-do attitude; team player, visionary, self-driven, and able to think outside the box
