Job Description

Community Engagement is an integral part of the Education department, and its purpose is to bring The Sarasota Ballet into the local community.
The Community Engagement Program Director will oversee all community engagement programs, including our flagship program – Dance – The Next Generation plus Dance for All with its 3 pillars of Youth, Adaptive and Community.

The Community Engagement Program Director will be a dynamic individual, passionate about dance education and providing opportunities for all demographics to have access to dance. A highly organized self-starter, they must be creative, goal-driven and possess a high level of initiative.



Dance – The Next Generation (DNG)

DNG is a program that gives under-served youth an opportunity to explore the arts through dance. In addition to dance classes, the program gives students educational enrichment through partnering with local organizations.

  • Oversee and maintain all of the day-to-day operations of the DNG program.
  • Work closely with DNG staff, faculty, and cross-functional teams to meet program goals.
  • Develop, enhance, and expand DNG to create a unique program in line with the DNG mission.
  • Design, develop, implement, and evaluate dance programming for ages 8-18 to provide an exciting and progressive curriculum.
  • Create and oversee creation of curriculum upholding the quality of The Sarasota Ballet’s education programs and provide an inclusive classroom experience for students.
  • Recruit, supervise, assist, and assess faculty and support staff.
  • Manage and develop enrichment experiences for students.
  • Expand, develop, and maintain partnerships with local community organizations that serve the DNG students.
  • Manage and prepare annual budget; monitor budget including tracking expenses and reporting any concerns to Education Director and/or Finance Director.
  • Plan and oversee end of year performance including creation of performance program.
  • Manage and order any uniforms and shoes for students.
  • Manage and improve all communications with students, parents, faculty in both English and Spanish.
  • Track data and set up systems to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Manage all aspects of student transportation.
  • Represent DNG at internal/external events.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.


Dance For All – Youth, Adaptive, Community

  • Act as liaison with external organizations.
  • Manage, facilitate, and maintain existing community partnerships.
  • Work to create, develop, and execute programming for public schools in Sarasota/Manatee/Charlotte counties, community performances and engagement events.
  • Oversee Silver Swans and Joyful Movement through Parkinson’s programming.
  • Recruit and supervise teachers for these programs.
  • Prepare and track budgets.
  • Identify and secure new community partners that will support Dance for All.
  • Assist in creating marketing materials.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.



  • DNG is an after-school program, therefore you must have a flexible schedule as working hours are during the evenings. Some weekends throughout the school year are required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in dance, education, or other related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Leadership experience in dance education and community engagement with various ages, demographics, and disciplines.
  • Skilled presenter, facilitator, and communicator.
  • Demonstrate experience as a collaborative and inclusive leader.
  • Strong skills in managing, selecting, coaching, evaluating, and motivating staff.
  • Excellent people skills as leader and team player, working with a diverse population.
  • Strong organizational skills as well as time management and prioritization.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience with budget development and management.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and pass a driving record check.
  • Must successfully pass a Grade 2 background check.
