Primary Purpose
The Business and Promotions Manager position in the College of Arts & Letters exists to support all three ISU School of Performing Arts programs: Music, Theatre, and Dance. The position provides management and oversight of financial and business matters for major productions and events as well as management and oversight of production and event promotion. The position is also responsible for development and upkeep of event website and master calendar.


Key Responsibilities:

Business management

  • Management and oversight of financial and business matters for major School of Performing Arts productions and events
  • Coordinate house management for Theatre and Dance productions on show nights
  • Coordinate with ISU box office to track ticket sales and revenue, including season tickets, individual shows, and special events


Promotions Management 

  • Plan and oversee the design, duplication, and distribution of posters and programs for School of Performing Arts major productions and events
  • Plan and oversee advertising and promotion for School of Performing Arts major productions and events
  • Maintain master production and events calendar for the School of Performing Arts
  • Oversee development and upkeep of School of Performing Arts production and events website and other social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
  • Coordinate with department/program leaders, artistic directors, and College and University marketing staff to develop and manage short-range and long-range strategic advertising and marketing plans


  • Supervise student workers (CPI, graduate or undergraduate intern, etc.) engaged in activity supporting the business and/or promotion work associated with this position
  • Be available to attend all Theatre and Dance production meetings and monthly Music Department meetings
  • Provide updates and maintain communication with College of Arts & Letters Associate Dean for Fine Arts and Humanities, University Business Officer, and Director of Marketing and Recruiting

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate confidently, strategically, and effectively with a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple projects
  • Demonstrated ability for effective business management and/or business process oversight
  • Experience relevant to marketing and promotion


Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of and appreciation for the performing arts
  • Experience preparing and monitoring budget projections and reconciliations
  • Working knowledge of Excel and/or other similar software
  • Understanding of the principles of effective visual design
  • Working knowledge of Adobe design or other similar software
  • Familiarity with (or evidence of ability to learn) the ISU content management system for website maintenance
  • Good knowledge of ISU and the surrounding community
