Job Description

The Department of Cinematic Arts at the University of Iowa invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Film & Video Production beginning in August 2020. We are seeking skilled instructors to teach introductory, intermediate and advanced undergraduate film and video production courses. Salary will be based on number of courses taught. The Department of Cinematic Arts serves more than 350 undergraduate majors and minors in the growing B.A. in Cinema major, the recently launched B.A. in Screenwriting Arts, and hundreds of non-majors through our General Education courses. We also have active graduate programs leading to the M.F.A. in Film & Video Production and to the M.A. and Ph.D. in Film Studies. The successful appointee will teach at various levels of the undergraduate curriculum depending upon program needs.

Education Requirement:

M.F.A. in Film & Video Production or related area in hand by start date.

Required Qualifications:

Experience teaching film/video production at the college level.

Ability to teach students to use a broad range of digital moving image cameras, digital audio recorders and post-production software such as the Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Audition, etc.), Pro Tools, Avid and Da Vinci among others.

An ability to teach undergraduate courses in two or more of the following areas: Image Design, Sound Design, Editing, Fiction filmmaking, Nonfiction filmmaking, The Art of Smartphone Filmmaking, Business of Filmmaking.

An ability and desire to work successfully with students of diverse backgrounds.
