Full-Time Art Specialist
Oakridge Auction Gallery began in 2015 as a fine arts auction house specializing in Asian art and antiques, with particular strengths in Chinese decorative arts and paintings. In the last two years, Oakridge has expanded its expertise into American and European arts and antiques, and is now looking to add more qualified team-members to this department.
As a senior auction specialist, the incumbent is responsible for providing expertise on fine and decorative art and antiques, securing consignments and ensuring that annual plan figures for net sales and operating income are met. The incumbent will also be responsible for finding and developing new opportunities to increase transactions on both the consignment and selling side of the business. These opportunities include but are not limited to: participating in local and regional trade shows or exhibitions for fine art, decorative art, and antiques; providing expert opinions to new clients at appraisal events and open houses. This person will additionally review incoming photo inquiries, as well as actual items, to determine sale potential.
Advanced knowledge in the field of art and antiques with the ability to accurately and quickly research and assess current market values.
Expertise in one or more of the following fields:
- American and European Furniture and Decorative Arts
- American and European Paintings and Drawings (old Masters and contemporary paintings)
- Porcelain and Pottery
- Jewelry & Watches
- Books, Maps, and Manuscripts
Must demonstrate an ability to appraise property
A track record of increasing a client base through knowledge, skill, and customer service
Minimum of five years of relevant work experience
Knowledge of auction platforms (AuctionFlex, Live Auctioneers, etc.) a plus, but not required
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including superior written and spoken communication.
Strong customer service skills
Broad, multifaceted knowledge of current market conditions
Connections with dealers and collectors in the art and antiques market desired
Strong organizational skills
Function as an active participant/ Team Player
Able/willing to travel both locally and across greater region in order to develop consignor and buyer relationships
Salary: $50,000-70,000 Commensurate with experience and knowledge
