Position Summary

The Arts & Culture Center of Rancho Cordova is seeking a dynamic and visionary Art Director to lead the artistic programming, exhibitions, and community engagement efforts of the Mills Station Art and Culture Center. This role combines curatorial expertise, strong organizational skills, and a passion for working with artists and the public. The Art Director will shape the creative direction of the MACC while fostering meaningful relationships within the local and regional arts community.

Key Responsibilities

Artistic & Curatorial Leadership

• Develop, curate, and oversee rotating exhibitions across multiple media
• Research and interpret artworks with strong grounding in art and art history
• Create educational signage significant to the exhibitions
• Ensure high standards of artistic quality and cultural relevance for the community and its historical relevance to the area

Community & Artist Engagement

• Build and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, and diverse artist communities
• Serve as a welcoming, knowledgeable point of contact for artists, patrons, and partners
• Coordinate artist calls, selections, contracts, and exhibition logistics
• Represent the MACC at arts events, openings, and community meetings

Program & Operations Management

• Plan, schedule, and manage exhibition timelines, installations, deinstallations, and events
• Coordinate workshops, lectures, receptions, and educational programming
• Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and contractors to support MACC operations
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines

Administrative & Technical Skills

• Maintain exhibition schedules, calendars, and documentation
• Utilize computer systems for email, scheduling, databases, design coordination, and reporting
• Assist with maintaining current program budgets, monitoring expenses, and supporting grant compliance and fundraising activities related to arts programming.
• Support marketing efforts through content creation and collaboration with CCC staff

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Art, Art History, Fine Arts, or a related field (master’s preferred)
• Demonstrated experience in curating exhibitions or managing arts programs
• Strong knowledge of art history and contemporary art practices
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and people skills
• Proven organizational and scheduling abilities
• Proficiency with computers and standard office and creative software
• Ability to work collaboratively with artists, staff, volunteers, and the public

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in an arts center, gallery, museum, or cultural institution
• Familiarity with public art, community-based arts, or educational programming
• Grant writing or fundraising experience a plus
• Experience with exhibition design, installation, or collections management

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary Range: Between $60,000 to $70,000 annually
