Reports to: Director of Guest Services
The Accessibility Coordinator is responsible for implementing and supporting the Guthrie’s Accessibility Programs, including staffing all access performances, working with the Director of Guest Services to set-up and test access equipment, arranging for service providers, and providing excellent customer service to all patrons. When not working in direct support of Accessibility Programs, the Accessibility Coordinator will work as a lead member of the Guest Services staff in support of welcoming guests to the Guthrie. This position is full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt and benefits-eligible. Compensation for this position is $35,609 – $43,300 annually plus benefits. The typical schedule for this role is Tuesday – Friday, 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Access Performance Support and Coordination
- Be present for and assist with the logistics of all access performances, including ASL-interpreted performances, audio-described performances, relaxed performances and open-captioned performances.
- Liaise with Front of House and technical staff regarding the requirements of accessible performances. Ensure staff are briefed for each access performance to understand any adjustments they might need to make for audience members or service providers.
- Support the Director of Audience Services and the Director of Guest Services in developing the operational plan for guests with disabilities.
- Ensure all audience members with access needs are able to easily reserve appropriate seats.
- Coordinate and train accessibility volunteers to assist patrons for all scheduled access performances.
- Foster a work environment incorporating the Guthrie values of Artistic Excellence, Community, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Fiscal Responsibility.
2. Access Program Stewardship
- Support Marketing with outreach initiatives to special interest groups and service organizations.
- In collaboration with the Director of Guest Services, assist with updating the Guthrie’s Accessibility Plan.
- Recruit, hire and oversee ASL interpreters, audio describers and accessibility volunteers.
- Assist with developing web access, including coordinating ASL interpreters to create signed videos.
- Work with the Marketing team to create an Accessible Audience Development Plan for the Guthrie.
- Caption videos for the website and social media.
- Produce materials in alternate formats, including Braille, large print and electronic versions.
- Establish and maintain relationships with relevant community organizations or members of the disability community and accessibility peers and conduct outreach efforts to promote awareness of Guthrie Accessibility Programs.
- Facilitate requests for use of access equipment by other organizations.
- Act as an advocate for persons with disabilities and stay current with best practices in the area of inclusive access.
- Stay current in best practices of performing arts accessibility and applicable accessibility laws.
3. Guest Engagement
- Make a great first impression by welcoming and engaging all guests to the Guthrie in a friendly and helpful manner as they enter the building.
- Assist guests with wayfinding around the Guthrie.
- Monitor conduct of guests in all public spaces.
- Provide exceptional customer service while interacting directly with the public.
- Answer general questions about the Guthrie, its policies and procedures, and the neighborhood and community.
- Display a professional demeanor and resolve guest issues professionally.
- Respond to guest concerns or complaints.
- Follow reporting process for any problematic incidents that occur.
- Assist with special events that take place at the Guthrie throughout the year.
4. Operational Support
- Maintain Assistive Listening System and Audio Description loaner kits as well as supplies for each performance.
- Conduct regular checks of all public spaces.
- Ensure restrooms and lobbies are clean and well-stocked, and reset lobby furniture as needed.
- Liaise with House Management staff to ensure smooth operations and positive guest and audiences services experiences.
- Assist the Guthrie Store in the processing of retail sales, restocking products and maintaining a clean and welcoming space.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated experience in the fields of theater and/or performing arts accessibility specifically working with guests with accessibility needs.
- Prior experience providing guest/customer service in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to present a polite and professional demeanor when interacting with customers and colleagues.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English.
- Basic ASL skills useful but not required.
- Prior experience with computerized ticketing preferred but not required.
- Typing and computer proficiency skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to maintain composure under stressful situations.
- Ability to concentrate effectively in a busy environment.
- Ability to follow all emergency procedures.
- Experience, ability, and commitment to working with individuals and teams that are mixed across lines of difference such as race, gender-identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class and immigrant status.
- Must be willing and able to work flexible hours/days, including evenings and weekends, reflective of the dynamic schedule of the theater.
