Summary

My name is Marena Faye Dunnington. I am a highly driven, creative individual with a passion for utilizing the dramatic arts to support and inspire vulnerable and at-risk young people. I have 5 years of experience in creating and delivering workshops and classes that focus on a wide range of topics, including prejudice and bystander intervention; creating access into a community of individuals with visible differences; as well as various topics on mental health and wellbeing. These workshops utilize drama to build confidence, self-esteem, and resilience skills. With a Masters degree in Applied Theatre, I have extensive training in a significant number of applied theatre techniques, including forum theatre, devising, educational theatre, process drama, theatre of the oppressed, conflict-resolution drama, and intercultural and intergenerational theatre. Beyond this, I have 6 years of experience as the founder and director of a theatre camp that’s primary focus is to engage young people who do not have access to the performing arts in Hawaii. Through this experience I have been able to hone my leadership skills by successfully leading a staff of 8-10, as well as a group of 20-30 children nearly every summer for the past 6 years. I hope to secure a job in the tri-state area, beginning as soon as October 2017, as a drama teacher or facilitator of a program or school that works with individuals who struggle with mental health, or feeling othered. I am also interested in providing opportunities in the dramatic arts for young people who have limited access to it.
