Rank: Assistant Professor Job Description: San Diego State University’s School of Theatre, Television, and Film seeks a skilled acting teacher with a specialization in Movement and / or Voice and Speech to join the faculty in our Performance area. The expectations of the position include: instruction in undergraduate acting programs, curriculum development, advising, and leadership within an increasingly interdisciplinary program. Ongoing professional activity and leadership are expected. Teaching responsibilities may include: Acting I, II, and III, advanced styles in acting and directing (classical or contemporary), Auditioning, and Acting on Camera, Fundamental and Advanced Voice classes, Movement I and II. We encourage applicants who will bring diverse perspectives to teaching acting. The successful candidate will be joining a school with a broad-based approach to teaching acting; a requirement for a student international experience; and a history of high-quality student performance opportunities in musical theatre, the classics, modern plays, theatre for youth, television, and film. Candidates should have either a demonstrated track record of teaching or significant professional activities in the areas of Theatre and in Film / Television / New Media. Graduates from the current program go on to graduate school, professional careers as performers, and begin their own theatre companies.

ABOUT US The School of Theatre, Television, and Film was established to create a community of artists in related fields and to build a cross-disciplinary curriculum for students. The primary goal of TTF is to provide superior undergraduate and graduate educations for a diverse body of students seeking careers in all areas of live theatre and the moving image arts. The Theatre Program provides: critical studies in theatre history and dramatic literature; technical skills relevant to professional theatre design, production, and performance; performance and design techniques for film and television; special programs in theatre for youth and community education; and opportunities to apply skills and artistry in a full season of plays and musicals produced in fully equipped theaters. The Television, Film, and Digital Media major prepares students for a range of careers in the entertainment and information industries, including independent film, documentary, public affairs, and short film. The program's professional focus includes technical and artistic training in film and television production and design, digital technologies, screenwriting and critical studies, animation, cinematography on state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. Internships are available in all branches of the School. The Theatre program offers a Bachelor of Arts degree. On the graduate level, the Theatre program offers the Master of Arts degree as well as the Master of Fine Arts degrees in Musical Theatre and Design and Technical Theatre. The Television and Film program offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Television, Film, and Digital Media Production. On the graduate level, a Master of Arts degree in TFM is currently offered and an MFA is anticipated in the near future. The School seeks to strengthen the relationship between the disciplines of the moving image arts and live theatre through faculty whose specialties allow them to move easily between both areas of the School and a curriculum that is steadily increasing the number of interdisciplinary courses. |
