Job Description

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world’s finest museums, seeks a Product Development Manager for Textiles and Personal Accessories, for the Merchandise Department.
The position is responsible for developing reproductions and adaptations, as well as making trade purchases for products to be sold in the Museum’s shops, catalogs, and website.
Categories of product include: Scarves, Ties, T-shirts, Caps, Pocket and Purse Accessories, Umbrellas, and Totes.
The PDM is responsible for research, conceptualizing product lines, product development, product line plans, product specifications, and product quality for the managed department.
The PDM will oversee partner vendor relationships to maintain Museum aesthetics, safety and quality standards, profit margins, and timely deliveries.
The PDM works closely with the Divisional Merchandise Manager to determine product line plans and to meet financial goals.

Skills

The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 10 years' experience working in a merchandising or product development position, preferable with a focus on textiles or accessories, with a track record of developing successful, tasteful and quality products.
A strong aesthetic sensibility is essential.
The candidate will have an understanding of relatedness and appropriateness of product for a museum shop environment. BA degree is required.
