Assistant/Associate Museum Educator

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world’s finest museums, seeks an Assistant/Associate Museum Educator to plan, facilitate, and implement a Museum-wide program of college and graduate-level student internships.
Interns are placed throughout the Museum and throughout the year, provide assistance on specific projects, and present gallery-based talks to the general public.
The incumbent will oversee the intern application process, including review of candidates and placement within the Museum, oversee fulfillment of interns' responsibilties within each department, and organize a structured training program, including sessions on museology in general and on the MMA collection so that interns' public engagement will be effective.
The incumbent must be able to work collaboratively with a wide range of professional staff across the Museum and beyond, in particular with staff at The Cloisters, the Counsel's Office, Communications, Human Resources, and Visitor Services, and will serve as team leader of the Museum's Internship Working Group.

The incumbent is a member of the Adult Programs area and as such will be involved in the creation and development of programs for adult visitors. As a member of Education's professional staff, the incumbent will also be expected to teach on all levels, write about the collection and exhibitions, and to serve as Education’s representative to curatorial departments and to specific exhibitions.The incumbent is expected to represent the Museum, and specifically the Internship Program, on a national and international level.

Successful candidates will plan, develop, and implement summer, long-term, and unpaid internships for college students and graduate students; oversee intern application process, candidate review, selection, and placement; oversee budget for internship program, maintain records, evaluate program for reporting purposes; oversee interns' work, including training, auditing, and coordinating public teaching by interns; and develop written promotional and education materials about the internship program, Museum collections, and Museum exhibitions.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are essential.
Teaching experience required.
He/she must possess strong leadership skills to supervise, coach, and develop interns and other young adults exploring on Museum-related careers.
Masters degree required or equivalent work experience.
Background in art history required.
Knowledge of desktop and online tools, including Microsoft Office required.
