Full-Time Job Visitor Services Manager – Museum

The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis seeks a Visitor Services Manager (VSM) to join its full-time staff.
The VSM is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to visitors; managing the visitor services staff team; overseeing public areas in the Museum to ensure cleanliness, safety, and security; and supporting operations for the café, shop, and public and private events.
S/he is often the first CAM staff member with whom a Museum visitor interacts, and must communicate knowledgeably and enthusiastically about exhibitions and other Museum activities as well as lead exhibition tours.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Audience Development, the VSM is encouraged to continually improve the visitor experience by evaluating and effectively enhancing Visitor Services systems and procedures.
This position coordinates and supervises a roster of five to ten part-time Visitor Services Associates and security staff, which includes scheduling, training, evaluating performance, and assisting with recruitment and hiring.
The VSM also works closely with the Events Coordinator and café/bar staff. Other duties include tracking, analyzing, and reporting visitor data; managing CAM shop orders and inventory; coordinating CAM’s volunteer program; and collaborating with the Learning and Engagement department to support Museum programming.
The successful candidate will have exceptional customer service skills, the demonstrated ability to motivate and manage a team, and a strong understanding of retail and customer service management.
S/he must be able to positively represent the Museum and engage with visitors and co-workers in a professional and cordial manner.
Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years supervisory experience in related setting; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; experience working with retail point-of-sale systems; flexible schedule to accommodate weekends and some evenings (five-day workweek is Tuesday–Saturday). Strong knowledge of and interest in contemporary art is preferred.
