Full-Time Job Theatre Technician

Riverland Community College, a member of Minnesota State, is seeking a full-time seasonal Theatre Technician.
Full-time Seasonal (Academic Affairs Work Area)
40 hours per week (10 month appointment – off June & July)
Hours: 9:30 – 6:00 p.m. (with flexible schedule aligning with theatre and other events)
Create and execute designs for college theatre and music productions based on script readings, research and consultation with the Theatre and Music Directors in the areas of: scenery, properties, lighting, sound and miscellaneous production support. Maintain and coordinate all equipment used in the theatre, including but not limited to lighting equipment, audio/visual equipment, costumes, scenery, and shop tools. Maintain and coordinate the theatre master calendar and theatre use with appropriate college units and staff, including: scheduler, Office of Instructional Technology, maintenance, Theatre Director, Music Director and other areas affected by facility use. Provide theatre facilities support assistance.
Two years of experience in set design and construction, scenery preparation and rigging, and lighting. A Bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts with a concentration in Technical Theater may substitute for the experience requirement.
Knowledge of professional procedures and practices used by theater arts and crafts workers; occupational practices of the theater and its machinery and equipment, and the safety procedures involved in working with this machinery and equipment; standard practices used in the construction of stage scenery, furniture, and properties; conventional methods of mounting and rigging stage scenery; the characteristics of the common materials used in scenic construction (e.g. lumber, canvas, metal, plastics).
Human relations skills sufficient to direct the work of students and other technical personnel.
Ability to read working drawings, front elevations, floor plans, and shift plans; supervise skilled and unskilled helpers; operate and maintain stage lighting and sound equipment; operate hand and power tools to construct sets and scenery.
Master’s Degree or a Master of Fine Arts Degree
Multilingual or multicultural background or experience working with underserved populations.
