Job Description

Randolph College Theatre is seeking interested candidates for a one-year, renewable appointment for the professional staff position of Technical Director/Instructor.
Position will run full-time August 15th through May 15th. Responsibilities within the department of theatre include mounting all department productions (two- to four- show season during the academic year with possibility of additional student productions and visiting shows) and supervision of technology; primary responsibility for developing production schedules and budgets with other Theatre faculty and visiting artists; organization and maintenance of scene shop, production, and storage areas and equipment; developing working drawings from design drawings, and coordination of all technical production in Thoresen Theatre, a 250-seat proscenium house, the Lab Theatre, a 60-seat black box space, and the Whiteside Greek Theatre, a 1000-seat outdoor space (used less often). The technical director teaches stagecraft each semester and advises students in production labs. Special topics classes and design opportunities may be available for qualified candidates. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to undergraduate education in theatre in a liberal arts environment, possess notable artistic and technical skills, demonstrate excellent organizational and collaborative skills, and work positively under pressure. MFA preferred. To begin July 1, 2018.

Randolph College (established as Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in 1891), is a selective liberal arts college in the central Virginia foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the thriving arts community of Lynchburg. The Department of Theatre offers a BA degree with emphasis in performance or design/tech, and an interdisciplinary BFA in coordination with other Arts programs. The production program involves an average of 80 – 100 individuals from a broad spectrum of majors across campus with average of 3 theatre majors per class year.
