Do you love working with kids? Are you a textile fanatic? We have the the perfect job for you! During the Summer, Textile Arts Center offers day-long child care with textile classes, craft time, museum trips, and playground visits. Our fun and educational textile classes are based on weekly field trips to a current textile exhibition in NYC. TAC is currently seeking motivated, creative, and ENERGETIC individuals who have experience working with kids, arts education, textile processes, and classroom management for our Brooklyn and Manhattan Summer Camps.
Qualified applicants with serious enthusiasm for summer camps will join our staff as Assistant Counselors, Head Counselors, Weaving Instructors, Surface Design Instructors, or Craft
SUMMER CAMP INSTRUCTOR POSITION
Responsibilities and Duties: Implement our in-house developed Summer Camp Curriculum with aid of Counselor and Assistant counselor; ensure quality education and offer opportunity for genuine learning experiences. Enact daily operations of classes including: Preparation/Clean up/Inventory for class; Coordinating Counselors/Interns during class time; Leading a group of 10-20 students in textile-based instruction; Photograph work, document and update lesson plans; Supervise campers on field trips to Museums, Prepare the space and artwork for Friday’s Open Studio.
Must be 18 years of age and have a background in education, strong classroom management skills, ability to give and take direction, experience in a creative classroom environment, and a deep demonstrable knowledge of textile processes. Proactive, gives and takes direction well and always willing to help.
SUMMER CAMP HEAD COUNSELOR POSITION
General Responsibilities and Duties: Responsible for daily supervision and safety of campers; supervision of Assistant Counselors and utilization of their help to best run daily activities. Daily management of 10-20 campers; including assisting during art class and craft time, leading free-time and organized play, attendance and dismissal, late stay/early drop, administering first aid or summoning emergency help as needed; maintaining group medical log; escorting to and from all activities and trips; on-going evaluation of assistants and programming. It is the Head counselors duty to keep to the camp’s schedule and ensure all children are safe and happy.
Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age and have prior experience with children in a camp or classroom setting. It is best if they hold interest or knowledge in the arts, and in particular textiles. Experience with groups of children, however, is most important. Proactive, gives and takes direction well and always willing to help. CPR and First Aid certification is included in training.
SUMMER CAMP ASSISTANT COUNSELOR POSITION
General Responsibilities and Duties: Responsible for the general safety and well being and happiness of campers, as well as assisting Head Counselors in daily activities on and off camp site. Will be responsible for supervising quiet and free play, field trips, lunch periods, and clean up times. In charge of supply inventory, as well as packing all materials for off-site activities. Must be able to stand in to manage campers if Head Counselor is called away on an emergency.
Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age, and hold prior experience with children in a classroom or camp setting. It is best if they hold interest or knowledge in the arts, and in particular textiles. Proactive, gives and takes direction well and always willing to help. CPR and First Aid certification is included in training.
SUMMER CAMP ASSISTANT DIRECTOR POSITION
General Responsibilities: Responsible for camper documentation plus daily supervision and safety of campers while on the playground and free times at TAC as well as administrative assistance weekly.
Specific Duties: Responsible for opening and closing procedures daily, assist in management of all campers during drop off and dismissal and play times, helping leading free-time and organized play, monitoring and maintaining camper forms and documents, administering first aid or summoning emergency help as needed; escorting to and from all play activities; supervising campers on field trips to Museums; on-going evaluation of staff and programming; serves as general communication liaison regarding camp activities. Activities Coordinator also serves as the craft teacher for our 11-13 year old camp group. (This position is a teaching position).
