Job Description

The Studio Museum in Harlem is the nexus for artists of African descent locally, nationally and internationally and for work that has been inspired and influenced by black culture. It is a site for the dynamic exchange of ideas about art and society.

Looking towards its 50th anniversary, the Museum has embarked on a Capital Campaign to build a new facility designed by Sir David Adjaye, OBE of Adjaye Associates with Cooper Robertson. The new building will enhance institutional capacity augmenting both capital and operational projects.

The Museum seeks a seasoned Project Accountant with strong analytical skills with particular experience in Capital Projects. This position will support the Finance Department in managing the overall accounting of the capital project, while collaborating with staff to ensure compliance, implementation and enforcement of financial policies. The Project Accountant will also assist with the transition to and launch of Financial Edge NXT software.

• Collaborate with Project Team to ensure timely and accurate submission of all
construction billings, including preparation of contract award work payments,
change orders and requisitions
• Responsible for accounts receivable reconciliation in collaboration with the
Development department, monthly expense reporting and reconciliation of job cost
activity to ensure consistent and proper coding
• Preparation of cash flow reports, project projections, budget revisions and other
financial reports for Project Team
• Perform monthly close and related journal entries
• Develop and maintain the necessary tracking and reporting systems to insure
execution of all tasks as well as the dissemination of project performance
information to project management
• Assist with the transition from FundEz to Financial Edge NXT software, including
migration and maintenance of the chart of accounts and project coding set up
• Leverage the Finance Department’s SharePoint site to ensure compliance with
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles as well as enforcement of the Finance
Department’s policies and procedures
• Assist with the other financial duties as needed

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in progressively responsible roles in
accounting and finance, ideally in museums or other cultural organizations
• Exceptional knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Effective communicator with positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and
collaborative instincts
• Efficient and decisive management of workflow with exceptional attention to detail
and deadlines
• Excellent organizations skills
• Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work independently and complete
projects with minimal direct supervision
• High degree of accuracy in data inputting
• Excellent judgment and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information
• Experience with capital and construction projects preferred
• Experience with New Market tax credits a plus
• Experience with City Capital Funding procedures a plus
• Proficient with Financial Edge NXT, FundEz, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook,
SharePoint and PowerPoint
