Part-Time Production Stage Manager
Dance Theatre of Harlem is looking for a Production Stage Manager to advance technical requirements in each presenting venue and call all DTH shows.
Dance Theatre of Harlem is a leading dance institution of unparalleled global acclaim, encompassing a professional performing ballet company, a leading arts education center and Dancing Through Barriers®, a national and international education and community outreach program. Each component of Dance Theatre of Harlem carries a solid commitment towards enriching the lives of young people and adults around the world through the arts.
Founded in 1969 by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook shortly after the assassination of The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mitchell was inspired to start a school that would offer children — especially those in Harlem, the community in which he was born — the opportunity to learn about dance and the allied arts. Now in its fifth decade, Dance Theatre of Harlem has grown into a multi-cultural dance institution with an extraordinary legacy of providing opportunities for creative expression and artistic excellence that continues to set standards in the performing arts. Dance Theatre of Harlem has achieved unprecedented success, bringing innovative and bold new forms of artistic expression to audiences in New York City, across the country and around the world.
This position is an unique opportunity to advance the technical logistics required for all DTH performances in NYC, domestically and internationally. All pre-production work will be done locally, and the chosen candidate will call all shows while traveling with the company on all tours anywhere from 12-18 weeks of the year.
The Production Stage Manager will be responsible for overseeing and executing, as necessary, all production needs for the Dance Theatre of Harlem Company including, but not limited to, calling DTH Company lecture/demonstrations and concert performances, supervising theater personnel in each venue, and supervising the lighting and costume elements in all aspects of DTH Company production.
The Production Stage Manager will plan/recommend theater schedules (load-in, load-out, stage and rehearsal times, etc.) based on theater requirements and contractual stipulations; coordinate with theatre Technical Directors in advance; provide feedback to team on how to improve technical quality of performance and efficiency; and manage the work of the Wardrobe Manager.
Candidates should have strong interpersonal and organizational skills, be enthusiastic, hardworking, equipment and team-oriented. Above average attention to detail, excellent prioritization skills and the ability to adjust quickly to an ever changing work environment is a must. There will also be a requirement for this candidate to lift or move up to 50 pounds of equipment at a time through travel itineraries and in the theater. This is a part-time position, estimated at roughly 2/3 time, answering to the General Manager and beginning in August 2014.
Per Diem will be offered while traveling with the company alongside a weekly salary.
