Contract Job Phil Killian Directing Fellowship
Inspired by the legacy of American theatre director, Phil Killian, whose work has left an enduring impact on OSF, this four to six (4-6) month Directing Fellowship was developed for early career directors to have an opportunity to work on large scale, classical theatre productions and Shakespeare in particular. The Killian Directing Fellow will have the opportunity to assistant direct on two large-scale theatre productions, one of which may be with OSF Artistic Director, Bill Rauch. Additionally, the Directing Fellow will direct a public reading of a new play or adaptation during the OSF season for which they are chosen. Only one such Directing Fellowship is offered each year. Selection is determined by a national advisory committee. Complimentary housing, round-trip airfare, and a $6,000 stipend are provided.
Candidates for this Directing Fellowship must have directed at least three (3) productions with Equity contracts, and show an aptitude or interest in directing classical theatre. Candidates must be able to commit full time to the Directing Fellowship.
Additionally, if you’re selected you may be required to begin your Directing Fellowship as early as January and complete your Directing Fellowship as late as August. For this reason, you have a higher probability of being selected for the Killian Directing Fellowship if you are available January to August.
Please note, if you are an experienced director, but do not meet the above Equity productions requirement, we also offer Directing Assistantships, which also provides an advanced learning opportunity. Complete information can be found on our website.
Applications are due July 1, 2017
