Job Description

The Maryland Symphony Orchestra seeks a dynamic, detail oriented individual for the full-time position of Operations Manager/Education Coordinator.

Under the musical leadership of Elizabeth Schulze, the MSO serves a four state region (MD, PA, WV, VA) with a full season of classical, pops, Holiday and runout concerts as well as presenting a variety of educational programs in partnership with the Washington County Public School system.

The Operations Manager/Educational Coordinator will be responsible for all details related to the orchestra’s performances and educational programs to ensure that they run professionally and in a fiscally sound manner. The successful candidate will develop the annual master plan for orchestra operations including rehearsal and performance schedules, musician contracts, guest artist contracts, vendor contracts and all other aspects of operations. S/he will attend all rehearsals and performances to coordinate production logistics and respond to orchestra personnel concerns while ensuring that the MSO is in compliance with orchestra policies. S/he will work closely with the Music Director, Executive Director, Personnel Manager, Librarian and Production Assistant to ensure that the musician’s working conditions are conducive to artistic excellence.
S/he will work in partnership with the Education Committee of the Board of Directors to set appropriate goals and oversee all aspects of the MSO’s educational programming.

Requirements: The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Music or Arts Administration, a thorough knowledge of orchestral music and prior experience with an orchestra or similar performing arts ensemble. The candidate should have an intense attention to detail and possess strong writing and verbal communication skills. An ability to work as a part of an effective and flexible office team is a must. Nights and weekend work are required.
