Full-Time Job Managing Director
The Department of Theatre and Dance at Ball State University is looking to fill a professional position to as Managing Director starting July 2017.
The Department of Theatre and Dance at Ball State University is one of the largest programs in the nation. Boasting a student population of over 450 majors and a full time faculty and staff of over 40, the department produces over 20 shows per year. The Managing Director is a critical hire for the department, as this individual serves on the department’s Leadership Team and is directly involved in the day to day operations of the program. Managing all aspects of the building and marketing of the production season which includes a mainstage subscription series of four theatre and two dance events; a studio subscription series of four theatre productions; and a workshop series of eight-twelve student-driven productions; co-chairing the Production Committee (which selects plays for upcoming seasons and determines production policies); assisting the Chair in the supervision of one full-time staff member (Marketing Director/Box Office Manager) and student employees; securing all rights for plays and musicals; negotiating guest-artist union contracts with AEA, USA, and/or SDC; collaborating with Marketing Director to create and implement season marketing plan and determine strategic initiatives for audience development; overseeing design and production of all printed materials (season brochures, playbills, ads, posters); managing budgets related to marketing and royalties; assisting department chair in fundraising as needed. In addition, successful candidate will also be able to teach academic courses within the theatre area including Introduction to Theatre or Introduction to Dance, Theatre Management, and/or other courses in candidate’s area of expertise.
Master’s degree in theatre, dance, or business from an accredited college or university (completed by June 30, 2017); One year of experience working in the area of theatre, arts management, or development; Theatre management experience in professional Equity theatre.
MBA in Arts Management; MFA in Theatre Management; Experience in all aspects of theatre front of house including marketing, publicity, financials, scheduling, development, and fund raising.
