Director of Development
Department: Development
Reports To: Senior Director of Development and Executive Director of Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
FLSA: Exempt
Employment Status: Regular/Full-time

Reporting to and working in close collaboration with the Woodruff Arts Center’s Senior Director of Development for Annual Giving, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s Development Director will design and execute on a comprehensive development strategy for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, with a focus on individual and foundation/government giving. As a member of the Annual Giving Leadership Team, the Development Director will oversee and execute on fundraising efforts and serve as the Senior Fundraiser for the Atlanta Symphony, while also overseeing staff as appropriate.

•Monday – Friday, Various Hours

•Actively work with the Senior Director of Development for Annual Giving and Arts Partner senior staff to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to include Board, individuals, foundations, government grants, and special events
•Serve as liaison to their Board, deepening each Board Member’s engagement with and investment in the Arts Partner
•Work collaboratively with and in support of volunteers and other development staff to cultivate and solicit donors in order to meet or exceed annual contributed revenue goals
•Maintain and build active portfolio of donors and prospects with capacity to make gifts of at least $10,000
•Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle for major donors:
o Initiate contacts with potential donors
o Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers
o Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure
o Make or manage solicitations
o Maintain stewardship contacts with donors, nurturing and enhancing relationships throughout
• Oversee, manage, and mentor their staff in efforts to:
o Build a vibrant and comprehensive development program for individual donors, complete with Arts Partner-specific benefits
o Establish systems to transition mid-level gifts to major gifts
o Oversee the development of a strategic broad based giving campaign for entry-level donors, and the plan to grow donors investment in organization
o Successfully execute signature fundraising events, working alongside volunteer leadership to meet or exceed revenue goals associated with each event
o Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential foundation and individual donors
• Work in partnership with other Advancement and Arts Partner staff on projects, as assigned
• Work collaboratively as a senior member of the Woodruff Arts Advancement team

Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Specificities
• Oversee the successful execution of fundraising strategies to meet or exceed all ASO Contributed Revenue goals
• Represent the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s mission, programs and message with stakeholders and helping to activate a broad segment of the community behind Symphony’s mission
• Support ASO Board Committees as assigned
• Work collaboratively with and in support of Symphony’s Executive Director and Board Chair in order to meet or exceed the Musicians’ Endowment goals , as well as building a comprehensive strategy for continued endowment growth and planned giving
• Collaborate with Symphony’s Vice President of Finance to ensure proper accounting for all fundraising income and pledges and to reconcile records in Tessitura and Great Plains
• Prepare regular fundraising progress reports; report out on ASO Contributed Revenue Campaign progress to the Atlanta Symphony’s Finance and Executive Board Committees and Woodruff Arts Center Advancement leadership
• Coordinate and collaborate with Corporate Fundraising Team on ASO Corporate Sponsorships
• Serve as liaison to ASO Board of Directors, ASO Development Committee and other key stakeholders
• Develop effective working relationships and work in close conjunction with the Executive Director and Music Director
• Effectively manage, develop and coordinate the work of the ASO’s development team
• Serve as a successful strategic partner and committed teammate of the Atlanta Symphony’s Senior Staff
• Represent the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra at various events and meetings when necessary
• Understand and communicate the artistic vision of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred
• Minimum of 10 years Development experience; preferably with some arts knowledge/background as well as Capital and Endowment Campaign experience
• Demonstrated success in securing 6-figure gifts and building a cohesive, successful team
• Sound computer and technical skills (Microsoft Office and non-profit CRM)
• Friendly and professional demeanor that engenders relationships with donors and colleagues

Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of modern constituency building techniques, including a focus on donor-centricity
• Highly organized and motivated
• Ability to work on a variety of projects simultaneously
