Contract Job Associate or Full Professor to head MFA Program in Directing

The University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts seeks an associate or full professor to head its MFA Program in Directing, teach introductory and advanced directing courses, and mentor both graduate and undergraduate directing students.
This faculty member will also teach introductory and advanced acting courses, will direct regularly on the main stage, and will provide administrative leadership for the department.
The appointment will begin in August, 2018.
MFA and/or PhD; strong professional artistic accomplishments in directing and expectation for their continuation; a total of at least 5 years teaching directing and acting at the university level; a record of administrative experience in the academy or the theatre profession. Desirable Qualifications: experience in new play development; grounding in Stanislavsky technique; experience teaching graduate level acting in such areas as Shakespeare, acting for the camera, and/or period style; experience in collaborating with artists in such fields as music, dance, and digital media for performance; observable commitment to diversity.

The Department supports a large BA program and MFA programs in Acting, Directing, Design, Dramaturgy, Playwriting, and Stage Management. It also serves non-majors with a growing number of courses. It presents at least 25 plays a year, most of them new plays, many directed by graduate and undergraduate directing students. It has excellent facilities. The MFA Directing Program accepts four advanced students every three years for intensive study and multiple opportunities for production. Directors collaborate closely with students in the Iowa Playwrights Workshop.
