Guilford College invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Theatre Studies beginning in the academic year 2017-2018.
The department offers rigorous, professionally oriented training in a liberal arts context through four curricular “tracks” within its major, including specialized tracks in Performance, Design/Tech, and History/Literature as well as a generalist Theatre Studies track. We seek professionally experienced, collaborative colleagues who will contribute to a dynamic department of high artistic and academic standards, which welcomes a variety of people and perspectives, and which strives to provide a learning environment where people from all races, ethnicities, national origins, genders, sexual orientations, backgrounds and learning styles may succeed.
The appointment requires a terminal degree in theatre, a record of professional theatre design experience and evidence of successful teaching at the college level.
Responsibilities will include one formal academic course per semester, two design assignments each semester on department productions, supervision of student design practicum assignments, student advising responsibilities, and thesis or independent study supervision for students in the department’s Design/Tech track. Course rotation may include Introduction to Theatrical Design, Scene Design, Costume or Lighting Design, and Digital Graphic Design or other specialty. Design responsibilities may include sets and/or costumes and/or lighting, with no more than two responsibilities on any single production.
Submit a brief cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, access to a digital design portfolio (include access information in cover letter), and names and email contact information for three references. Candidates may subsequently be asked to provide official college and graduate school transcripts. All materials must be submitted electronically through Guilford.peopleadmin.com/. Hard copies will not be accepted. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by February 20, 2017.
