Full-Time Job Assistant Professor of Scene Design
The University of Indianapolis seeks applicants for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Scenic Design in the Theatre Department, Shaheen College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Indianapolis to begin August, 2017.
Teaching responsibilities will include:
Stagecraft, Scenic Design, Computer Applications in Theatre, Introduction to Theatre Design, Theatre Production, and a Capstone Seminar sequence.
Other courses based upon applicant’s demonstrated areas of expertise, including, but not limited to new technologies, may be included.
Other duties will include designing scenery for two productions per year and may include supervising student projects.
Specific assignments will depend on department needs.
UIndy is primarily a teaching university, our faculty are expected to balance teaching with student supervision and advising, and participation in service activities at the department and college/university level.
A typical teaching load is 24 hours per year which includes teaching and designing.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The University of Indianapolis is located minutes from downtown Indianapolis with its vibrant arts scene. The Theatre Department maintains a close relationship with numerous professional and professionally managed theatres providing opportunities for faculty members to design outside the University. We also hire local professional designers and actors as adjuncts and guest artists, allowing for collaborative relationships on campus.
Minimum acceptable qualifications:
Education: A Master of Fine Art degree in Theatre with an emphasis in Scene Design or related field is required.
Experience: One to two years of applicable university teaching and/or professional experience is highly desirable, including industry standard computer applications.
