Assistant Professor of Dance
SUMMARY: The Department of Theatre Arts at Colorado Mesa University, Grand Junction, Colorado, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Dance. This assistant professor teaches a standard course load of 12 hours per semester in dance, including upper and lower division jazz and tap courses and lecture courses. Teaching may involve online, hybrid and/or distance delivery modalities. Collaboration with departmental faculty in the development and refinement of program curriculum required. Committee assignments, recruiting activities, advising, and departmental service required.
∙ choreograph each semester for the faculty dance concert;
∙ direct one dance concert per year;
∙ choreograph one musical per year;
∙ significant participation in recruiting and advising; and,
∙ serve as a leader in a BFA dance program focused toward commercial dance.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: MFA in Dance, or MA in Dance plus significant professional equivalency. Degree must be from an accredited institution.
∙ Professional performance experience
∙ Experience teaching and choreographing from among jazz, tap, and musical theatre styles
∙ Ability to teach courses in one or more of the following:
Improvisation, Dance Composition, Music for Dancers, Dance Appreciation, Dance Pedagogy, Choreography or Dancer Health.
∙ Experience in various forms of commercial dance and musical theatre also preferred.
