Job Description

(tenure-track or tenured)
The Department of Theatre and Dance at The University of Texas at Austin is searching for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, non-tenured Associate Professor or tenured Associate Professor in Lighting Direction/Design. The successful candidate will have established a professional career as a designer for stage and studio. Candidates with expertise in multiple design disciplines are encouraged to apply. The department is strongly committed to the creation of new work and the exploration of new ways of working. It is committed to collaboration not only in the making of performance but also in the delivery of the curriculum. We are also interested in candidates who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching, research, production work or service.

Duties:
•Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in lighting and design.
•Pursue ongoing research, scholarly and creative activities.
•Participate in service to the department, college, university and field.

Minimum Qualifications:
•Terminal degree in theatre design, film production or theatre/film-related discipline
•Strong creative record; professional design and/or cinematography credits as demonstrated by CV and portfolio.
•Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse population.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
•Record of at least five years of professional lighting direction and/or design experience.
•Record of active engagement with industry and professional organizations.
•Ability to serve as a mentor and professional liaison for students.
•Demonstrated ability to foster creativity and critique work among students with varying degrees of technical experience.
•Knowledge of existing and emerging technologies related to digital and post-production workflows.
•Working knowledge of studio and location lighting techniques.
