Overview
The Arts Program Manager will play a lead role in developing and maintaining relationships with partner arts organizations bringing programming to the Fort Mason Center campus. This role will be part coordinator and part curator, working to establish Fort Mason Center’s public arts program. The ideal Arts Program Manager candidate will possess strong experience with and knowledge of art and culture with a proven record of creating and managing performing and visual arts exhibitions. He/she is comfortable working in a team environment, is able to develop curatorial priorities and to make presenting decisions. He/she should be able to work both on long- to medium-term projects while keeping shorter-term details in line.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Develop, in collaboration with Fort Mason Center programming team, new art projects, partnerships and Artists-in-Residence programs.
Issue calls for proposals and coordinate the selection process.
Schedule and coordinate all aspects of Fort Mason Center arts programming each year, including serving as primary contact person for artists and guest curators; arranging for the delivery and installation of artwork; conducting audience outreach and community engagement activities; and designing educational and public programming.
Work with staff to design and/or generate appropriate PR and outreach materials, and to develop community outreach strategies.
Recruit and train appropriate volunteers and staff for Fort Mason Center arts programming, including but not limited to ushers, gallery sitters and docents, installation crew, and selection panels.
Manage program budget and ensure that income and expenses stay on course throughout the fiscal year.
Participate in grant writing and fundraising efforts. Participate in and support organization-wide events.
Represent Fort Mason Center to the San Francisco arts community and beyond.

Job Qualifications
Minimum 5 years’ experience in performing and or visual arts management/curation.
Excellent project management and communication skills and ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high quality work and attention to details.
A track record in developing and cultivating partnerships with arts and civic institutions.
Curatorial background and experience working with and supporting artists.
Prior volunteer recruitment and supervisory experience.
Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills (additional language(s) desirable).
Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office software suite (event management software experience a plus).

This is a full-time exempt position.
