Temporary Artist Residency
The New Victory Theater, New York City’s premier theater for kids and families, announces the call for applications to the 2015-16 artists-in-residence program, New Victory LabWorks. This unparalleled initiative is designed to spur the development of original high-quality productions for young audiences, and aims to significantly expand the landscape of quality performing arts for young people created in New York City. New Victory LabWorks challenges professional artists in all disciplines to create their highest caliber of work with a family audience in mind.
New Victory LabWorks is seeking applications from New York-based artists and companies interested in creating new work for family audiences in the areas of theater, dance, music, circus, and puppetry arts.
The 2015-16 resident artists will receive 4-8 weeks of dedicated rehearsal space in the state-of-the-art New 42nd Street Studios, a project stipend, artistic feedback and support of The New Victory Theater’s artistic programming staff, along with professional development and networking opportunities with other resident artists. Each residency is tailored to the specific needs and creative processes of the individual companies and may include presentations or open rehearsals for invited New Victory Members, which will provide the artists with an opportunity to interact with family audiences.
Previous New Victory LabWorks resident artists include: The Civilians and Taylor Mac (commissioned by Children’s Theatre Company, Minneapolis);CollaborationTown; Dead Puppet Society;James Ortiz, Spellbound Theatre and Elska.
In 2013-14, New Victory LabWorks hosted the final development phase of Fiasco Theater’s Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare, which premiered at The New Victory Theater last February.
