This postion is for a term of three years.


Position Summary

Open Until Filled The Field Manager in the Office of Design and Construction will represent the University interests on construction projects up to the $20,000,000 range and focus on the completion of the new chemistry building and miscellaneous projects for the School of Engineering.
Participate in the contractor selection processes for major projects.
Review contract documents for conformance with University and other applicable requirements.
Obtain all required internal and external approvals during the construction Phase.
Oversee the project schedule during construction.
Review the project budget and communicate cost issues to the Project Manager.
Represent University interests through construction.
Coordinate University responsibilities in the field.
Coordinate the selection and procurement of furnishings and equipment.
Facilitate occupancy of the project by the user.
Ability to develop and use BIM systems, track contractor and designer information through the University's project collaboration system.
The Field Manager will investigate options and recommend solutions for solving facility problems, and meet with the members of the University community and consultants to identify and assess facility problems.
Develop architectural/engineering solutions or options for improvements.
Estimate capital and operating cost implications of options under consideration.
Recommend specific proposals to appropriate University officers.


Essential Qualifications

The position requires a professional degree in Architecture or Engineering and professional registration as an architect or engineer.
These requirements include the ability to interpret construction documents, and understanding of applicable construction codes and land use ordinances working knowledge of the principles of design, an overview of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, and a solid grasp of construction industry practices and procedures.
Understand, through personal experiences, the business and viewpoints of contractors.
Provide a current perspective on construction marketplace costs and estimating standards and practices.
Possess experience with projects requiring strict commissioning protocols and procedures.
Demonstrate the ability to quickly establish credibility in the field in order to deal with contractors and bring about timely, fair resolution to issues while supporting the project team's goals and objectives.
Fifteen years experience in the management of construction or renovation projects, of which at least ten years experience must be associated with on the construction phase of buildings similar to those found in an institutional environment.
Proficient in the use of project scheduling methods, in particular Primavera P6 and have the ability to use project scheduling software to develop, review, and critique CPM schedules.
Experience working on large, institutional construction projects.
Demonstrate knowledge of the construction industry operations, and quality control measures. Have depth of knowledge in managing lab and/or clean room projects.
Must be a proven self starter, with ability to prioritize, follow-up and report on many issues.

This is a three year term position.
The final candidate will be required to successfully pass a background check.
