GUITAR FOUNDATION OF AMERICA – Executive Director

Budget:  $400,000


Founded in 1973, the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) is an international organization with approximately 1900 members, the largest and most recognized organization of its kind for the classical guitar.
The GFA produces a quarterly scholarly journal, hosts an annual international convention and competition (a weeklong event) and six annual regional events (single day) throughout the United States, advocates for guitar quality guitar education, maintains an active website with member services, sponsors an international tour for the winner of the competition, and maintains an archive of historical and rare music.


Duties:

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director is responsible for the general management and oversight of all activities of the Guitar Foundation of America.  
This includes strategic planning and implementation, fundraising and financial management, event planning, foreign artist visa acquisition, and marketing.  
The Executive Director works closely with the President to ensure the fulfillment of the organization’s mission.  
Eight part-time employees report to the Executive Director, working to support development, the winner’s tour, production of the quarterly journal, and other administrative duties.


Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have combined education and experience which prepares them to be a successful leader of an internationally recognized arts organization. Although experience in performing arts administration is preferable, candidates from other backgrounds may also be well suited for this position.  
Emphasis will be placed on evidence of superior interpersonal skills, verbal and written presentation abilities, and leadership skills.
Currently, GFA has no physical office space.  

Candidates may reside anywhere in the United States.


Salary and Compensation:

Salary commensurate with experience, ranging $50,000-$60,000/year.  
GFA will also contribute $100/month towards medical insurance.  
The board also plans to add a defined contributions plan in the near future.
